Food safety is a cornerstone of governance for food-related businesses, due to its impact on public health, legal compliance, and organisational reputation. Company boards play a vital role in establishing and promoting a food safety culture within their organisation, and hold overall accountability for ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.

In conjunction with the Institute of Directors(external link) and New Zealand Food Safety(external link) , AsureQuality held a panel discussion on food safety governance last year, generating positive feedback and interest in training opportunities on this critical aspect of governance for food production and manufacturing businesses.

To address this need, the AsureQuality Academy has now launched a new Food Safety Governance training course(external link) , designed specifically for directors and CEOs. Led by Peter Landon-Lane, Chair of the AsureQuality Board, and Kim Ballinger, CEO of AsureQuality, the new course covers the accountabilities and responsibilities of directors with regard to food safety, the basics of food safety management, the legal and regulatory framework, as well as the role of the Board in leading a food safety culture. It also introduces governance tasks, such as determining risk tolerances and ensuring a framework is in place for monitoring and reporting of risks, measures and system effectiveness. With real world examples to highlight best practice, the course aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and confidence to guide their organisation’s approach to food safety compliance.

Delivered in partnership with the New Zealand Institute of Directors, the new course complements the extensive range of food safety courses already offered by the AsureQuality Academy for the food and primary industries.
