Chemistry Testing
AsureQuality’s chemistry testing laboratory is the largest in the southern hemisphere and offers the latest technology, led by a team of internationally recognised scientists.
Our services support food, dairy, meat, fresh produce, wine and pharmaceutical manufacturers to ensure their products:
- Meet national and international codes, standards, or regulations
- Comply with labelling requirements to support nutritional claims
- Adhere to manufacturing, quality control, and quality assurance practices
We also provide technical leadership and advice for method development and validation.
Our extensive testing portfolio offers a range of chemical analyses covering compositional, nutritional, functional ingredients, and safety-related compounds. For specific details about the range of matrices and tests, please contact us.
Nutrition Information Panels
A Nutrition Information Panel (NIP) is the table that is printed on food packaging. It outlines for consumers the key nutritional values of the product so that they can make informed purchasing decisions. We provide laboratory testing on food products that will give you the information needed to populate this table on your packaging.
A basic NIP reflects the food labelling regulations set by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Under these regulations the nutritional labelling of any food product must contain information about seven key nutrient components:
- Protein
- Total Fat
- Saturated Fat
- Carbohydrates
- Energy
- Sugar
- Sodium
Moisture and ash are also included in the basic NIP. These tests are needed to calculate the carbohydrate and energy values. It is not required that these tests be listed on the product labelling.
For more information on NIPs visit the Food Standards website. (external link)
Allergen testing
Accurate allergen labelling on food products is critical for individuals managing food allergies and intolerances. AsureQuality offers a comprehensive allergen testing service to help manufacturers ensure compliance with food labelling requirements, maintain consumer trust and avoid costly recalls.
We offer testing for a full range of allergens, including dairy, egg, tree nuts, gluten and shellfish. We can test sample types including food and ingredients / raw materials, as well as environmental swabs to ensure the safety of your production environment. All testing is performed at our Auckland Food Laboratory.
Foreign matter testing
Our laboratory is able to provide analysis to detect the presence of unwanted foreign matter in food and dairy products for regulatory requirements for release testing.
Analysis techniques include visual inspection, filtration and seiving.
Micronutrient testing
Micronutrient testing measures essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D, iron, calcium, and zinc to ensure nutritional accuracy, product quality, and regulatory compliance. These are commonly used in supplements, dairy, and fortified foods, and product testing ensures consumer trust and regulatory approvals.
Ths testing is used to verify label claims, support fortification programs, and prevent deficiencies or excesses in food and beverages.
As leaders in dairy and infant formula testing, we provide advanced analysis of key nutrients in infant formula, including micronutrients, OPO, HMO, DHA, and GOS, to ensure regulatory compliance, nutritional accuracy, and product integrity. Our team of scientists align with the latest scientific advancements and global methods to ensure we offer our customers world leading tests to support product development superior products.
The methods used in our laboratory include ICP-MS, HPLC, and spectrophotometry, providing precise quantitative results to meet FSANZ and Codex standards.
Please contact us for a complete list of micronutrient testing.
- Micronutrients – Precise quantification of vitamins and minerals to verify compliance with regulatory requirements and label claims
- OPO (Oleic-Palmitic-Oleic structured triglycerides) – Analysis to confirm the presence and structure of fat molecules that support fat absorption and digestion
- HMO (Human Milk Oligosaccharides) – Verification of HMO content to ensure alignment with the nutritional composition of human breast milk
- DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) – Measurement of DHA levels, an essential omega-3 fatty acid crucial for infant brain and eye development
- GOS (Galacto-oligosaccharides) – Testing for prebiotic content to support gut health and digestive function in infants.
Heavy Metal testing
Heavy metal testing detects toxic elements such as lead, mercury, arsenic, mercury, tin, iodine, sulphur and cadmium in food products to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and consumer protection. It is also used to identify contamination from soil, water, packaging, and processing.
Our laboratory uses methoods such as ICP-MS.
This testing is essential for infant formula, seafood, grains, and supplements, this testing helps prevent health risks and meets FSANZ, Codex, and international safety standards.
Medicinal Cannabis GMP Chemistry testing
AsureQuality's GMP lab testing ensures medicinal cannabis products meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.
Testing services include potency analysis (THC/CBD levels), microbial and heavy metal screening, pesticide residue testing, and stability studies.
Our laboratory uses validated methods like HPLC, GC-MS, and ICP-MS, ensuring product consistency, purity, and compliance with local and international pharmaceutical regulations
Raw Materials GMP Chemistry testing
Our Chemistry laboratory provides GMP compliance for raw materials and chemical testing to ensure the quality, purity, and consistency of pharmaceutical ingredients before manufacturing.
